“When you hear Delves sing on ‘In Colour’, her debut album as Georgia State Line, it sounds like she’s been singing country songs her whole life. In her warm, honeyed voice, the nostalgic comfort of all the country women greats past and present is embodied.”

Georgia State Line (GSL)
is the brain-child of award winning Melbourne songwriter Georgia Delves. Formed in 2017, the project is brought to life alongside Delves’ longtime collaborators – Tommy Brooks, Patrick Wilson and Laura Baxter.

Bursting onto the scene with 2021’s debut ‘In Colour’ (Cheatin’ Hearts Records/Spunk! Records), the group earned international recognition from NME, Rolling Stone Germany and North American College Radio, charting at #1 on CJSF, British Columbia. The project has also cemented its place in the Australian music scene, with nominations from ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) and AIR (Australian Independent Records).

Over the course of their time together the band have played to jam-packed rooms at Port Fairy Folk Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival and CMC Rocks. Abroad, GSL showcased at the iconic Bluebird Cafe for Americanafest, quickly becoming festival favourites.

A fervent over-thinker, Delves balances nostalgia with whimsy through her lyrics that masterfully capture the fragile impermanence of it all. Taking inspiration from contemporaries Sarah Klang and Caroline Rose, Delves and her band translate these influences with nods to alt-country and Americana, but through years spent on the road, it is their extra special band dynamic that creates the signature GSL sound.

As they look towards recording their sophomore release in early 2024, Delves is excited to explore a new sonic direction and tap into her innate pop sensibilities. In a recent sold-out performance at world-renowned Melbourne Recital Centre, the group previewed new works alongside a string section, with the show accessible to Deaf audiences via an Auslan (Australian Sign Language) interpreter. Their hope for the future is to make music that speaks to the heart, and create live shows that every music lover can access.

Forging their unique path forward, Georgia State Line are “emerging young hot shots” (Love Police Touring) on the rise.

“Many Australian artists refer to themselves as Americana or alt country these days, but very few deliver the  real  thing  as well  as Georgia State  Line. Hailing  from Melbourne  but  sounding like Texas  or Tennessee,  this  band represents the true essence of today’s country music”
– BILL CHAMBERS

‘Heaven Knows’ puts Georgia State Line on a pedestal of their own...standing far and wide above the country music niche that surrounds the genre, and its cultural context in Australia.
